Allan Watt is a leading Independant Computer Forensics Expert in New Zealand and has had over 25 years experience in computing.

Allan has had an involvement with law enforcement since joining the NZ Police in the 1980s, after a career in the NZ Army.

Formerly a member of the NZ Police Criminal Intelligence Section, Allan commenced research in the area of computer forensics in 1994, completing some of the first computer forensic examinations for the NZ Police in 1995. He went on to complete Academic studies and obtain other qualifications as listed below.

Allan has had published a number of articles, including a major research paper on Computer Crime in the NZ Business Law Quarterly (Oct 1999), and the Chartered Accountants National Journal. As an acknowledged authority on the subject of computer forensics, a list of these is provide below. He is also a guest lecturer at the University of Auckland.

He has experience in the IT industry in major networks and systems, having worked for a number of years for an international company were he was employed as the senior support engineer for the Southern Cross Cable Network’s, Operational Support System. Here he was responsible for the day to day management, operation, security and disaster recovery of this critical 24 x 7 complex system. He was trained as an Oracle DBA, Solaris Systems Administrator, GEC Smallworld GIS Systems Administrator and for many other applications. He also wrote the Disaster Recovery Plan for the Southern Cross Cable, Operational Support Centre and its computer network.

Subsequent to leaving the NZ Police, Allan has worked in the private arena as a Computer Forensics Investigator and IT Security Consultant, and in this capacity has attended training seminars along with members of the NZ Police, Serious Fraud Office and other Government Agencies. His evidence has been accepted as expert in the: NZ Court of Appeal, High Court and District Court regularly and instances with the courts in NSW, Australia.

He is constantly liaising with Barristers and Solicitors, Private Investigators and major corporations, and has completed hundreds of investigations on their behalf and numerous security audits and assessments for large and small companies within New Zealand.
